Compliance Coordinator (Enrollment Services Specialist 3)

Job Description:

The Penn State Office of Student Aid is seeking a compliance coordinator. This position supports and assists the Office of Student Aid Director of Compliance and Training in promoting and monitoring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures governing the administration of the principal functions of the Office of Student Aid. The work of this position impacts Penn State’s approval to participate in Federal and State Student Aid programs which comprise the majority of the $1.2B in student aid funding at the University.

As a member of the Office of Student Aid Compliance and Training team, the selected applicant will

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Assist in detecting, preventing, and resolving areas of non-compliance
  • Assist in assessing the impact and applicability of new regulations; develop and update policies and procedures for the Office of Student Aid Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Collect documentation in response to requests from authorized representatives of the U.S. Department of Education conducting investigations authorized by law
  • Assist the Director of Compliance and Training with all stages of an audit.

 

This position must maintain a high level of expertise in the use of the Code of Federal Regulations, the Federal Student Aid Handbook, the Federal Student Aid Knowledge Center website, and NASFAA’s Tools and Resources. This position will also monitor various information sources and daily updates from professional associations. Strong research, critical thinking, and writing skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail, are paramount to the selected applicant’s success. This position is located in University Park, PA.

This position also assists the office’s Assistant Director for Compliance and Training with the maintenance of a comprehensive training and professional development program for new and experienced aid staff. Other responsibilities include advising students and families about student financial aid and working with other University departments, such as Admissions, Bursar, Registrar, and World Campus, on common compliance issues.

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus one to three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Prior knowledge of federal, state, and institutional student aid regulations, policies, and procedures is preferred. Previous policy and procedure writing is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Office 365 is a plus.
