Student Financial Services Counselor
Wilkes University seeks passionate, student-centered professionals as applicants for a Counselor position in the Office of Student Financial Services. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Financial Services, the Counselor provides a variety of coordinating and advising services for undergraduate and graduate students regarding federal, state and institutional student financial aid programs, regulations, eligibility requirements and application procedures; responsible for coordinating federal work study for all and returning students; works closely with students and families on ROTC and Veteran benefits, financial aid opportunities; performs functions related to the technical and functional financial aid processes; reviews Free Applications for Federal Student Aid; conducts student needs analysis; packages student financial aid; monitors and processes federal verifications; provides student and parent financial aid counseling in person, by phone and via e-mail. Creating an outstanding student experience is a priority in this role. The counselor acts as a champion for our students and ensures that their experience is friendly and helpful, delivering high-quality, speedy, personable and conversational support. Maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude is essential for success in this position.
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial aid, student counseling, or a related area. Experience in higher education is preferred. Knowledge of financial aid application procedures and forms is required. Sensitivity to the needs of all prospective students and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and other members of the campus community is expected. Additionally, a successful candidate should possess: strong organizational skills; an eye for detail; the ability to relate well with students and family members to provide accurate, valid, and complete information and work in team and independent environments; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; strong computer skills in MS Excel and proficiency with technology; a willingness to assist current and prospective students and their families in financing a college education; the ability to read and effectively interpret policy and regulations; and the ability to understand priorities and deliver projects on time.
