JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The primary responsibility of the Reporting Specialist is to provide quantitative analytical support with student financial aid data to entities both internal and external to the University on behalf of the Office of Student Aid and Enrollment Management. Recipients range from any/all Student Aid staff, who may make decisions related to individual student’s aid amounts; University spokespeople; members of the President’s Council, including the Vice President for Enrollment Management; the University President for annual meetings at the Pennsylvania state legislature. This position also provides data/information outside the University to such entities as the federal Department of Education, for federal reporting purposes, or to such organizations as US News for the annual college ranking.

 

Performance details include:

  • Independently create, modify, and support existing reports/surveys/programs or requests based on customer requirements for university, state, federal entities as required via the use of the SAS, or SQL based programming languages. Examples include: IPEDS, NPSAS, Annual President’s Legislative Factbook.
  • Provide functional user support for Office of Student Aid (OSA) specific interfaces, including eSteward; OSA mass emailing system, SAS-tools, etc. This requires using rigorous analytical problem-solving abilities and the ability to effectively communicate with end users, both by understanding the issues and responding with effective solutions.
  • Update/maintain data in the OSA data warehouse and Enrollment Management (EM) Analytics data warehouse as needed.  Maintain documentation on data sources, data processes and data dictionary. Monitor data processes and investigate anomalies in the data warehouse. Develop solutions and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management Analytics for research activities and dashboard development.  Provide definitions and guidance in use of student aid data.
  • Develop and maintain a basic understanding of the Student Aid process.  Enhance and/or develop computer programming to improve the process or support university initiatives.
  • Seek out relevant training and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as needed from the unit include but are not limited to writing documentation, providing technical guidance to staff and cross-training on data and technology functions.

 

This role will report to the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and Executive Director for Student Aid but will have a shared work responsibility to support the Executive Director for Enrollment Management Analytics in support of common enrollment management goals.

 

Penn State’s Office of Student Aid, as a member of the Enrollment Management Office, is responsible for administering and tracking over $1.3B in Federal, State, University and private/external student aid funding. These programs assist over 75,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students each year.

 

Education and Experience:

Minimally requires a Bachelor’s Degree, 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is filled at the Senior Professional level. In addition, a functional knowledge of SAS programming language is required. Experience with higher education, student financial aid data, and the creation of data dashboards is preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

 

$61,800.00 – $89,600.00
