Financial Aid Counselor
The Financial Aid Counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is responsible for meeting with and assisting current students, prospective students, and their families in regards to their financial aid packages, awards, and options. They update and maintain financial aid records on a daily basis including but not limited to the distribution and management of the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Loans, Federal Work-Study, State Grants, External Awards, and institutional funds. The counselor analyzes account information to answer questions related to financial aid eligibility and processing. They have a working knowledge of Federal, State, and Marywood policies and regulations on the distribution and management of these funds and reference them often.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides a professional, helpful, and welcoming tone and a positive attitude towards community members interacting and communicating with the Financial Aid Office
- Assumes primary responsibility for meeting with prospective and returning students and families to discuss financial aid eligibility and their financial aid package
- Monitors schedules and provides training for work-study students employed in the Financial Aid Office
- Assists with the coordination and disbursement of aid to student accounts
- Monitors and maintains links/forms located on the financial aid webpage
- Required to work weekends and/or evening hours to accommodate student and recruitment events such as open house, orientation, etc. 10% travel required

At least one year in higher education administration and/or financial aid is preferred High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred Positive attitude with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks Ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff at all levels within a diverse, multicultural, and collaborative environment Individual must have a fine-tuned sense of integrity and privacy; can understand and uphold confidentiality and the regulations of the Family Educational Rights and - Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
