Job Description:

The Assistant Director will assist in providing leadership and supervision in the administration of federal, state, and institutional student aid programs for a diverse population of undergraduate students. The Assistant Director will manage and maintain prospective and currently enrolled students’ financial aid files, determine eligibility requirements for student aid programs, assist with the completion of the application forms, package financial aid, and review satisfactory academic progress each semester.

Expectations for this position include providing professional and courteous communications with students and families and, maintaining detailed and accurate records. The assistant director will be responsible for the awarding and distribution of financial aid that may involve complex regulations. Extended hours and occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Assist Sr. Director and Associate Director in day-to-day office operations Counsel students and families in obtaining federal, state, and private funding, and establish whether students meet required criteria for the funding Educate students on budgeting, debt management, and alternative ways to manage expenses associated with a college education Attend and present at on campus recruitment events, financial aid presentations, and open houses Position requires some work nights, weekend, and travel to off-site locations Participate in professional development opportunities and professional organizations on the regional, state, and national levels including: PHEAA, PASFAA, EASFAA, PFaids, etc Additional Responsibilities: Assist Sr. Director and with packaging financial aid for traditional undergraduate, including management of verification with vendor, review of conflicting data, and aggregate grant and loan limits Assist the Sr. Director with awarding of outside scholarship funding Responsible for managing, awarding and communication of the Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange programs Assist with training, planning, assigning and directing work, and addressing complaints and resolving problems with students and families Other duties as assigned Qualifications/Education: Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University. Bachelor’s Degree required Three to five years of financial aid experience preferred Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations as well as experience in awarding and processing institutional aid Must provide exceptional customer service, specifically related to the mission of the university Experience with PowerFAIDS and Power Campus preferred Demonstrate strong interpersonal and customer service skills across varied audiences such as students, parents, staff, alumni, and the community Ability to manage multiple projects with time-sensitive deadlines, working as part of a team as well as independently with little supervision Ability to diffuse difficult or emotional situations with students and/or parents Excellent written and verbal communication skills Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Access Physical Requirements: Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
