Job Description:

This position provides students and their families financial aid related services through activities including, but not limited to giving presentations, counseling students about the financial aid process, awarding various aid programs, and educating students about the importance of good financial management. Related duties include helping to facilitate and support student-centered initiatives and provide leadership, counseling, and guidance to students, families, and the University community. The incumbent will interact with staff from various levels within and outside of the University.

In addition, this position will have administrative oversight of specific aid programs administered by the office to ensure funds are properly awarded, disbursed, and accurately reconciled in a timely manner. These initiatives will contribute to safeguarding the University in the area of compliance with financial aid-related regulations.

This position is located within the Financial Aid unit of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA). There will be occasions when attendance at off-site events require travel and overnight stays. Occasional extended work hours (early mornings, evenings and/or weekends) will be required to support the needs of the operation.

 

Employee must have the ability to work well with a diverse community and groups with different levels of technical ability. The ability to develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with individuals at all organization levels on campus is critical, along with the ability to work independently and with a team of colleagues. A good working knowledge of time management techniques, ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems or concerns. Able to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments and projects. Able to perform work under pressure to meet student service and operational demands

Qualification:

A Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s Degree is preferred. The employee must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of regulations for administering student financial aid programs, financial aid need analysis, and processes. Previous experience working as a financial aid counselor administering specific financial aid programs is preferred. Working knowledge and respect of FERPA rules and regulations and ability to ensure compliance. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must. Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), PeopleSoft Student Administration System, Perceptive Content (ImageNow) imaging system, and CampusLogic Product Suite preferred.
