Financial Aid Counselor
This position provides students and their families financial aid-related services through activities including but not limited to: – giving presentations – counseling students about the financial aid process – awarding various aid programs – educating students about the importance of good financial management In addition, this position will have administrative oversight of specific programs to ensure funds are properly awarded, disbursed, and accurately reconciled. These initiatives will contribute to safeguarding the University in the area of compliance with financial aid related regulations. Serving under the Financial Aid Client Services and Special Programs team, the position also serves as part of the Financial Aid unit of the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid. Some evening and weekend work required.
University of Pittsburgh
A Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s Degree is preferred. The employee must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of regulations for administering student financial aid programs, financial aid need analysis, and processes. They must have considerable experience working with specific financial aid programs and a good working knowledge of FERPA rules and regulations and ability to ensure compliance. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must with experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), PeopleSoft, and Perceptive Content (ImageNow) imaging system. Employee must have the ability to work well with a diverse community and groups with different levels of technical ability. The ability to develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with individuals at all organization levels on campus is critical, along with the ability to work independently and with a team of colleagues. A good working knowledge of time management techniques, ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems or concerns. Able to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments and projects. Able to perform work under pressure to meet student service and operational demands.
