Job Description:

Temple University invites applications for a full-time financial aid counselor within the Office of Student Financial Services (Division of Enrollment Management). The Financial Aid Counselor provides financial aid information and advising to prospective/current students and their families in a fast-paced team environment while complying with federal and state regulations as well as university policies.

The Financial Aid Counselor also assists in the administration of federal, state, and institutional student aid programs for a diverse population of traditional and non-traditional students. The position will process, award financial aid in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The position will analyze data and assist with professional judgments in consultation with direct supervisor.

Qualification:

Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one-year related experience. Experience analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues. Experience delivering accurate and courteous information in a fast-paced and demanding customer service environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: * Ability to both counsel students/families (via video, telephone, email, or in-person) and process financial aid. * Ability to work independently and remain focused in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks. * Ability to accurately advise students and their parents regarding financial aid funding and the impact on their student account and payment processes. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of private, personal information provided by students and their families. * Ability to provide pleasant and patient customer service to a high volume of clients. * Excellent and effective communication skills. * Ability to interpret and adhere to federal regulations and institutional guidelines and policies specific to counseling and processing financial aid. * Ability to work well with a diverse community and groups with different levels of technical ability. Multi-lingual skills are a plus. * Ability to develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with individuals at all organization levels on campus is critical, along with the ability to work independently and with a team of colleagues. * Excellent office management skills, including computer literacy. * Ability to work as a member of a team, meet deadlines, and work in a culturally diverse environment. * Knowledge of federal Title IV and state financial aid programs and regulations. * Good organizational and interpersonal skills. * Ability to use good judgment and make sound decisions. * Understand the university environment and have the ability to effectively communicate knowledge. * Ability to work in a Microsoft Window-based environment using various software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Preferred: * Familiarity with Banner Student Information System, needs analysis, and federal/state financial aid programs.
