Job Description:

Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) seeks a thoughtful, innovative, detail-oriented professional for the Director of Student Employment Manager opportunity, housed within F&M’s nationally-recognized Office of Student and Post-Graduate Development and responsible for providing strategic oversight and operational leadership for the Student Employment Office, which facilitates on- and off-campus employment opportunities for over 50% of the entire student body or 1250+ students annually and oversees the formation and communication of student employment policies, budget practices, student worker and supervisor training, and compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. The Director, in collaboration with the Assistant Manager of Student Employment, serves as the primary contact for and source of information about F&M’s student employment program, and performs the following essential functions:

Provide strategic oversight and operational leadership over F&M’s Student Employment Office professional staff and student worker personnel, and supporting systems including the College’s Federal Work-Study and College Work Option programs and corresponding budget.

In collaboration with the Assistant Manager, assist with the new employee on-boarding process including processing new hire paperwork (e.g. W-4s, I-9s, etc.) and creating employee records in all relevant payroll and HR systems.

Design and implement programmatic and supporting initiatives that support the employment of work-aided students with on- and off-campus employer partners so that students can earn their work-aided maximum eligibility, with programmatic initiatives including, for example, the Fall and Spring Student Employment Fair.

Provide coaching, training and resources to student worker supervisors on job postings, posting system, student recruitment, hiring practices and performance management, and pay rate determination, while fostering an appreciation among students and supervisors about the importance of student employment on student success and career preparedness.

Develop professional development opportunities for student employees, including helping students connect their employment to career exploration and career and soft skill development.

In collaboration with the Assistant Manager, oversee and maintain the platforms that support the Student Employment Office’s operations.

Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree and related work experience in higher education preferred, in the areas of student employment, human resources, financial aid, finance and/or payroll Knowledge of policies and practices relating to student employment; Familiarity with human resources, finance, and/or student enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems required, with Banner experience a plus; Ability to recognize strengths and clarify the interests and values of students while assisting them in making informed decisions about student employment opportunities required; Experience assuming programmatic, supervisory, and budgetary responsibilities required; Experience cultivating relationships and communicating effectively, oral and written, with a broad range of constituencies required; The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty, and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
