Job Description:

The Senior Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for a variety of activities which include overseeing the import and export of Department of Education files, FAFSA verification, managing and administering Federal Grant and Federal Direct Loan Programs, and assisting with Title IV refund calculations. Performs other related duties as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversees the Department of Education Import and ISIR Importing Process for all SAIG Mailbox files and student populations in Colleague.

Prepares verification files for award packagers by performing FAFSA verification for all selected students and applicants, for all campus locations, in accordance with federal regulations.

Sends missing information emails to students requesting FAFSA verification documents. Serves as backup for the Communications Management module of Colleague.

Assists with document data entry into the Colleague System.

Oversees the electronic processing of the Federal Pell Grant Program & Federal Direct Loan Program, including electronic reporting of all awards and monthly reconciliation of funds.

Communicates with COD as needed in order to facilitate the Pell Grant and Direct Loan Programs.

Oversees the disbursement and transmittal of private student loans.

Confirms student eligibility for aid awards prior to disbursement and processes electronic disbursement of all aid awards to the Bursar’s Office.

Runs and manages reports as needed from Colleague and the GMercyU Reporting Portal.

Assists with periodic audits of Colleague to identify and fix errors in order to maintain data standards.

Assists the Director of Financial Aid with the completion of annual reports and surveys.

Assists with Title IV refund calculations for students who withdraw from their program of study and returns funds electronically to COD.

Assists with the certification and packaging of Private Loans and Direct PLUS Loans.

Works flexible hours at multiple locations depending on departmental needs.

Meets with students and families to analyze and assess needs relating to financial aid.

Other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Bachelor's degree preferred and 1-3 years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of Federal Student Aid Regulations especially related to verification and aid eligibility requirements preferred. Technical Skills Computer proficiency (PC Windows applications such as Excel, Word) is a must. Knowledge of financial aid software such as Colleague is highly desirable. Must be capable of managing computers effectively. Has the ability to import/export files from one software to another. Language Skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Mathematical Skills Excellent computation skills and ability to analyze data. Interpersonal Skills Ability to interact effectively and professionally with others. Must demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and strong customer service skills. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to handle multiple projects and priorities and work well under pressure.
