Financial Aid Loans & Systems Specialist

The Financial Aid Loan & Systems Specialist will be responsible for the accurate certification and disbursement of federal, private and institutional student and parent loans, and counseling of parents and students on financing options. This position will be responsible for complying with all federal loan entrance and exit interview requirements, as well as the Return to Title IV process. The Financial Aid Specialist will provide support to the Office Systems Manager for operational needs related to the Banner Student/Financial Aid Information System.
Essential Functions: Manages student loan administration process from start to finish by certifying student Federal Direct Loans, Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans, and private alternative loans, including importing and exporting origination and disbursement files, calculating eligibility, adjusting loans as needed, and completing monthly Federal Direct Loan reconciliation. Private loan process includes troubleshooting issues with ELM Resources and/or private lenders.
Counsel parents and students about financial aid awards and account balances. Inform them of the various loan options and amounts they may be eligible to receive and the loan application procedures. Coordinate with student accounts to identify students who may benefit from loan counseling to clear their balances and be able to register for classes.
Responsible for federal compliance in the areas of federal Return of Title IV aid for students who withdraw from the College and overseeing entrance and exit counseling support and compliance, offering opportunities for in person exit counseling for withdrawing and graduating students.
Support Office Systems Manager through creating and troubleshooting reports, collaborating with LIS to test and identify issues with new releases in Banner, and writing rules in Banner to aid in the efficiency of business processes
Assist in the review of first-year international student financial aid documentation, ensuring completion of documents and assessing eligibility as presented on applications.
Serve as the communications coordinator for the office, handling mail merge needs for both electronic and print communications, including online batch posting to online portals.
Download PHEAA grant rosters weekly, Assist with telephone calls, greeting visitors, and email as a backup to the administrative assistant. Meet with private loan representatives to keep abreast of private loan changes. Serve as a backup to the office administrative assistant, responsible for answering general phone calls and emails. Attend workshops and webinars. Assist with filing during heavy admissions processing time. Other duties as determined or assigned; Participate in other college committees as requested or assigned.
Education: Required – Associate’s degree Preferred – Bachelor’s degree (Similar experience greater than five years may substitute for required education.) 3-5 years work experience Additional requirements : Demonstrated aptitude for serving students and their families; Experience utilizing automated financial aid software and Microsoft Office products; Demonstrated verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team; Strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail; Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; and ability to manage multiple high-priority responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to read and write, or the ability to quickly learn, SQL.
