SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate Director of Financial Aid Services

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student employees

POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Aid Advisor works in a team environment, assisting in the administration of all activities relating to the college’s financial aid programs and services. The Financial Aid Advisor responds to and handles incoming visitors and inquiries, disseminates information on financial aid and financial literacy, advises students and parents on financial opportunities and strategies, and offers help completing application materials and related requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Advise students, parents, prospective families and other interested parties on the availability of student financial aid programs, financing options and related strategies to assist in meeting college education costs.

·         Educate students and prospective students about general financial literacy and help them navigate the financial aid process.

·         Respond to a high volume of financial aid inquiries and appeals, answer questions about requirements, and assist staff with correspondence tracking.

·         Assist students/parents in completing financial aid applications, and review submitted applications and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness.

·         Coordinate campus employment, train and supervise work study students, and maintain applicable work records and reports as needed.

·         Assist in the administration, awarding and reconciliation of financial aid programs.

·         Process Tuition Exchange inquiries, applications and reports under the direction of the TE Liaison.

·         Research, troubleshoot, resolve and prevent applicant problems and resource delivery delays, thereby contributing to a positive student experience while reducing accounts receivable.

·         Maintain close working relationships with all members of the enrollment team, student accounts, registrar, student success mentors, faculty, and all other applicable college offices.

·         Create and maintain necessary files, records and reports.

·         Maintain office supply inventory and orders.

·         Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid Services or his/her designee.

Qualification:

QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree is required, with 1-2 years of experience in financial aid or a related area (work study experience is acceptable). The position requires attention to detail, genuine commitment to creating a positive student experience for diverse populations, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a dynamic enrollment team. Additional requirements include excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills; demonstrated problem solving ability; and a working knowledge of the financial aid application process and industry practices. Ability to work extended hours and occasional weekends, based on scheduled events and emerging priorities.
