Job Title: Financial Assistance Counselor

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:

Neumann University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Financial Assistance Counselor. Within a centralized financial aid services environment this position evaluates, approves, and awards financial aid to students in accordance with federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and operating guidelines. The successful candidate will assess financial needs of students, and advise students and parents regarding financial aid options, processes, and requirements. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: analyze and evaluate financial viability of students and families, and provide advice and counsel regarding available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process; review and assess eligibility of applications for financial aid; exercise professional judgment to determine whether adjustments should be made; review for accuracy and provide signature approval/disapproval of loan applications, promissory notes, and other financial documents.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; ability to verify and assess student eligibility for financial aid; ability to analyze and solve problems, investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions; interviewing skills; ability to make evaluative judgments; knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies concerning the provision of financial aid to students; knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements; knowledge of the policies and eligibility requirements of a range of federal, state, and agency scholarship programs for tertiary students.
