Military and Veterans Benefit Specialist
Summary of Responsibilities: Under the oversight of the Director of Student Financial Services, the Military and Veterans Benefits Specialist provides financial aid counseling and administrative support duties to facilitate the operation of veteran education benefits.
This is a 12-month part-time position that will work approximately 20 hours per week.
Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
A. Customer/Student Assistance:
1) Serves as a primary point of contact with students, parents, other departments and external constituencies for veterans and military families concerning Veteran Education Benefits.
2) Educate and advise new and current students and their families concerning Veteran Education Benefits concerning application requirements, deadlines, eligibility requirements.
3) Ensures students understand all policies and procedures related to their financial aid and Veteran Education Benefits.
4) Serve as the Veteran Educations Benefits campus liaison and, at times, consult with internal departments providing information and advice regarding benefits and resources.
Program Management
1) Serve as primary School Certifying Official, Process certifications for VA and TAA benefits for all students populations according to federal guidelines and regulations.
2) Serve as a liaison and at times, consult with internal departments, providing information and advice regarding benefits and resources.
3) Performs need analysis calculations to determine eligibility requirements to satisfy all federal, state and institutional regulations; determines award amount adjustments, changes, or corrections as needed to student veteran or military-affiliated accounts.
4) Maintain compliance between the college and outside agencies, advising the college on critical compliance issues; maintain necessary communication that keeps the college in good standing with relevant agencies.
5) Participates in the development of institutional financial aid/veterans’ policies and procedures with the Director of Student Financial Services that will positively impact efficiency and quality of service provided.
6) Serve as centralized official working in collaboration with Center for Calling and Career to administer the VA student work study funding. Identify VA work-study funding, assist in coordinating with hiring of veteran or military- affiliated student workers, assist in creating appropriate job descriptions and maintain eligibility for VA work study funding.
7) Attend training, workshops, and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented for compliance with federal and state regulations.
C. Systems Support:
1) Assist with audits, compliance, reporting and data management.
2) Maintain program processes and documentation to ensure inspection success (VA, DOD, SAA).
3) Maintains appropriate database systems and generates reports.
D. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Geneva College
A. Minimum: 1) Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree 2) Experience: 2-4 years of relevant work experience, specifically in customer service. 3) Skills/Abilities: Organize with attention to detail. Exchange information clearly and concisely; Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; Type at a reasonable rate of speed; Obtain knowledge of computer applications and software, as needed; Resolve questions and problems in a professional manner; Work in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner; Work with others, prioritize tasks, and manage in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions. 4) Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. B. Preferred: 1) Education/Certification: Currently possess or actively pursuing a Master’s degree in a related field. 2) Experience: Prior work experience in Veterans Education Benefits.
