Job Description:

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for the administration of financial aid packages and the application of such funds.  This position provides excellent customer service to Mount Aloysius College students and families throughout the financial aid process and ensures compliance with federal/state aid regulations, as well as institutional financial aid policies and procedures.

The Financial Aid Counselor maintains all active/inactive Nursing loan files, and processes all new Nursing loans each semester.  Processes deferments, cancellations, and consolidation requests for Nursing loans, as well as posts journal entries.  Performs a variety of collection and write-off procedures, and maintains accurate records of all collection activities.  This position is responsible to complete the financial aid exit interview process with students when necessary and updates the Nursing Loan Program Policies and Procedures Manual on an annual basis

The Financial Aid Counselor processes paperwork for program approval and students who receive funding under the Trade Readjustment Act (TRA) program.  Also performs final verification of government selected ISIRs, and carefully maintains an accurate log of verifications.  The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for assisting with the reconciliation of the Federal Direct Loan program, and all federal, state and institutional aid programs.  Maintains and accurately updates the PowerFAIDS database, and utilizes the system to generate various reports and financial aid statistics.

The Financial Aid Counselor is also responsible for meeting one on one with prospective students and their families during individual and group events (Open House, Accepted Student Days, Orientations and FAFSA events) and explaining the financial aid process to them.

Qualification:

Associate degree in business, finance, accounting, or another related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Three (3) years of professional experience working in financial aid or a financial services and/or compliance-related customer service position is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Working knowledge of EdConnect, PHEAA, NSLDS and COD required. Ability to quickly and efficiently learn software that is highly utilized within the Financial Aid space (PowerFAIDS, SAL-NET, Jenzabar, Slate, etc.) required. Prior experience with these systems is a plus. The successful candidate must understand and comply with FERPA regulations. High degree of professionalism and a demonstrated ability to maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality is required. Above average verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills required; Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite required. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, maintain attention to detail orientation, and excel in a fast-paced, high volume office with little to no supervision is required. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively with others, and also exercise independent thinking to make sound decisions. Should be able to foresee risks and anticipate needs.
